About Us
Lake Hut Safaris is a small, locally owned safari company based in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland.
How we operate
We organize small-group safaris and nature trips for people who want to see Lapland properly, without crowds and without rushing from place to place.
We keep our groups small, choose our locations carefully, and give people time to actually be there, not just take photos and move on.
Every trip is carefully planned for you, so you can experience Lapland at your own pace.

How it started
Lake Hut Safaris was founded by Ilari Kotajärvi. He grew up in Sodankylä, in northern Finland, spending a lot of time outdoors with his family. Forests, campfires, long summer nights, and winter days became a normal part of life early on.
Later, Ilari moved south, but Lapland never really left him. Whenever he could, he came back north to ski, ride a snowmobile, or spend time in the fells. After working for several years in tourism, the idea of starting his own company slowly took shape.
The goal was simple: to offer visitors the kind of Lapland experience that had kept pulling him back for years.
How we work
We don’t try to fit as much as possible into a single day.
Instead, we focus on doing fewer things properly.
That means:
- small group sizes
- locations away from the busiest areas
- flexible schedules
- guides who know the local conditions
- practical, down-to-earth approach
We want our guests to feel comfortable and relaxed, not rushed or overwhelmed.
